MG SMITH?
Hey Friends! My name is MG Smith and I am a 23 yr old singer/songwriter from Nashville, TN! What a joy it is to make music & create rhythms & words that connect us all. I long to not just create music but offer words of refuge to those who feel lost, lonely, hurting, joyful, fearful, hopeful, excited, terrified, and all of the above. Would what I can offer, offer you some familiar kind of - freedom, friendship, and even laughter!
I started writing songs before I could learn how to read (I’m not being cute - I literally couldn’t read till 3rd grade). Anyways, songwriting has always been a way to describe to my soul and mind what I was witness and wrestling with inside. I even studied songwriting at Belmont University and somehow graduated with a degree in making up words and putting it to sounds! How cool! Through the years, I’ve discovered I want to share these songs with y’all and also help others write songs of their own.
So that means when I am not being introspective and introverted (which my friends would probably tell you I don’t have one introverted bone in my body), I am very passionate about helping others write their stories and songs through something I call, “Songs Of Safety”.
Great question! Here’s my attempt at answering:
“Songs of Safety” is a ministry/mission/calling/project that I started working on my sophomore year of college after I wrote songs with and for two incredible nonprofits that help women in recovery make a new and beautiful life for themselves. Teaching songwriting and teaching others how to write songs, that would otherwise never get asked about their story or their stories would be assumed for them , has been one of the greatest evidence of a God that really means it when He says, “I will surround them with songs of deliverance” Psalm 32:7, or again when He shares, “ He will rejoice over you with singing" Zephaniah 3:17.
These verses have been the very reason I have walked confidently into rehab centers, prisons, hospital rooms, with an assurance that my God loves to write songs with and for those who are hurting, lost, overlooked, lonely, and broken. I know this cause He does it for me all the time! My goal with any and all of this music stuff is to simply love others and create music and moments as an attempt to build bridges, give some sense of an air hug, and most importantly, echo the love of Jesus Christ.
If any of this stuff you relate to, want to get involved in, or have questions about - LETS BE FRIENDS! Coffee, pickleball, or a good heart to heart - I would love to connect! Also feel free to join my newsletter to get updates on music, songs of safety, and anything else my ADHD brain feels like it wants to overshare!
Thank you for even making it this far!
With love,
MG
